Well, after a one year blip, the Carolina Team has again taken the trophy for the Jamison Cup.
Congrats to Captain Jason Steiner and his Co-captain Shane Whitman for putting together strategic teams and pairings to regain the trophy. As the weekend started, the Carolina Team was a 20 stroke underdog in the matches. That may sound like a lot, but in all honesty, with a 36 man team, that’s less than a stroke per person so realistically these always were very close teams. The Carolina Team did use this underdog mentality to keep that chip on their shoulder though Good leadership by Captain Steiner to use as motivation.
Captain Steve Giampietro, along with Co-Captain Chris Teachout did a good job of preparing the World Team for a title defense. We came out strong on the first day of modified alternate shot with a one point lead at days end. But on Sunday, the format of 1 on 1, plus a team match proved too strong for us.
In the end, the game of golf was the real winner. There was such great golf played and so much friendship and fellowship over the whole weekend. The Captains were both very gentlemanly in winning and losing. At the end of the day, we are all fierce competitors but most importantly friends !!
All players gave it their best. Someone has to win, someone has to lose !!!
Thanks for putting together this event need to be given. Thanks for the two captains and assistants for putting together a great field of players top to bottom. They worked very hard behind the scenes to put on a great show. Thanks to John Anderson and his staff for again topping what they have done before. John has been an amazing addition to the club and we are all tickled for what he brings. Thanks to Brad Hartley and Wing King for hosting the pairing party on Wednesday evening. I wasn’t able to make it this year but heard the venue was perfect for our needs. Thanks to David Gies, his staff of starters, marshals, proshop personnel and cart barn peeps. To me, this is the best staff we have ever had at Fort Mill. All are gracious and helpful and we all enjoy and appreciate their help. Also, special thanks to Ashley Patterson and his staff for giving us a great golf course and conditions to play in. The greens were close to perfect. The cutting of trees and raising of canopy’s was much needed and the fairways and rough are starting to “pop”. We are always thankful for the golf course we get to call “home”.
Special thanks to Karen Brunelle for sponsoring and putting together our really nice score sheets. They were perfect for scoring
Check out the scores. There was some great play.
Captain G sent me this today. I haven’t researched it so I’ll take his word on it:
MVP: Paul Peterson with 5.5 total points.
Runners Up: Bill Ross, Ron Ringley, Rob Harding, Joe Maher, Adam Iagnemma, Bill Tasker. All with 5.25 points.
Our next event for the FMMGA is the Memorial Tournament in June. I’ll keep you all posted.
