This year's SpringMill Cup is complete, and the streak continues! Fort Mill won 90-72 against the team from Springfield. The trophy will spend another year in the Fort Mill Pro Shop!
For those who don't know, the SpringMill Cup is a Ryder Cup style match against our friends from Springfield. We have been playing this event since 2016, and this year was the 7th installment. Because of logistics and time, we can only have a 36 vs 36 match so I'm sure some of you may not be aware that it even happened. In each foursome, there are three matches going on at the same time. There are two singles matches and a team match. Each match is worth three points: one for the front nine, one for the back nine and one for the overall. So, there are nine points available in every foursome!
Thank you to both Aaron Black and David Gies for your support of this event. And thank you to the Springfield captain from the other side – Tommy Page – as well as all who participated. Many of the matches came down to the end, and if a few shots ended up differently, Springfield could have taken home the SpringMill Cup.
Instead, Fort Mill is a perfect 7-0 in this event. The event alternates courses and this year we played at Springfield. Dave Sturick was captain for the first four years while Jackson Windell led the Fort Mill team to victory two years ago. Last year, Rick Johnson took over the reins and brought home another Fort Mill win. This year, Rick Johnson and Chris Teachout were captains of the victorious Fort Mill team.
This event will be moving to March next year and will be a two day tourney at Fort Mill!! We will have qualifying in the February dogfights on Saturday, more to come on that in the next few months.
